Participants from Big Noise Govanhill performed before a packed audience at Elim Church in Glasgow as they concluded their 10th anniversary year celebrations. They performed a programme of music, including festive classics ‘Frosty the Snowman’ and the ‘Home Alone’ score alongside excerpts from J. S. Bach’s ‘Double Violin Concerto’ and pieces of music composed especially for the project.
Big Noise Douglas held two concerts at Claypotts Castle Primary School as they celebrated another successful year for Big Noise in the community. They performed a programme of music, including festive classics ‘Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy’, alongside music composed especially for the project such as the pieces ‘Mission Mars’ and ‘Hairy Haggis’. The children and young people were joined at the concert by the Big Noise Douglas Community Choir who provided delightful vocal accompaniment to some festive classics.
Amy Douglas, participant from Big Noise Douglas, said:
“The concert is great because our parents and friends get to come and see everything we’ve been working on all year and how we’ve improved. It brings everyone in Douglas together, even from different schools and people who don’t live in Douglas, and when I see my Mum in the audience I feel so proud! I've been going to Big Noise Douglas from the beginning when it first started. Lots of people don’t get the opportunity to play an instrument like I do, and I just really enjoy playing my cello."
Big Noise Wester Hailes held their first ever festive winter concert as a full orchestra at Canal View Primary School for excited family, friends, and carers, some of whom were able to see their child performing with their instrument for the first time! They performed a varied programme of music, including the festive classic ‘Jingle Bells’, alongside music composed especially for the project such as the pieces ‘Hairy Haggis’ and ‘Grumpy Pirate’.
Young musicians from Big Noise Raploch performed at the Raploch Community Campus which was transformed into a festive winter wonderland with tinsel and Santas galore! They performed a programme of music, including festive classics ‘Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer’ and ‘Good King Wenceslas’, alongside the classic Scottish folk song ‘My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean’. The concert at the Community Campus was the second of the week for Big Noise Raploch – whose young people had also entertained community members with performances by their Symphonic Band and Chamber Orchestra the previous night. Raploch's sister programme Big Noise Fallin also delighted crowds with their brass band earlier in the month when they performed at the Fallin village Christmas lights switch on event!
Overall, it's been another outstanding year of music, learning, friendship, and fun at Big Noise and we can’t wait to welcome our children and young people back to make an even bigger noise in 2024!
