Raploch
Raploch is the home of the first Big Noise Orchestra - and its the first orchestra of its kind in the UK.
The Raploch Estate lies at the foot of Stirling Castle with sweeping views across to the Wallace Monument and the Ochil Hills. Historically an area with problems, it is however undergoing considerable regeneration. Although there are still unemployment, drug and health issues, many of the residents are very energetic people making a big contribution to community life. The Big Noise orchestra is just one of many positive things happening in the area. The orchestra aims to be for every child in the community, and we work hard to ensure those from difficult backgrounds are not excluded. Children, from stable homes or challenging ones, learn that everyone has a contribution to make.
Big Noise in Raploch operates from the Big Noise Base on Drip Road, and we work in the Community Campus with children from the nursery, Our Lady’s Primary, Raploch Primary and Castleview Primary. The orchestra is also open to Raploch children who attend school elsewhere.
We are currently running a string orchestra with children playing double bass, cello, violin or viola. Ultimately we aim to have a full symphony orchestra.
